HISTORIC FLOODING IN THE LAKE MAINIT

Significant rains experienced since December 2010 and January 2011 in Surigao del Norte's Lake Mainit area. Conversely, one week continuous heavy rains which commenced January 29, 2011 resulted to flash floods in some areas in the lake ecosystem particularly at the lakeshore municipalities in Mainit and Alegria of Surigao del Norte and Kitcharao and Jabonga of Agusan del Norte. The said four municipalities was entirely affected especially the lakeshore barangays.

In the Municipality of Kitcharao, the submerged affected barangays are San Roque, Canaway, Bangayan and a portion of Barangay Crossing. The water level rises to almost 6 feet above the national highway in Barangay San Roque, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte. Buses and ten wheelers trucks cannot even pass through the highway. (read more)
